Holy crap there's a Deaf character who only uses sign language, sometimes without it even being interpreted, in The Dragon Prince????!!?! I have NEVER seen anything like this before??

There's an issue of the Matt Fraction Hawkeye run with untranslated sign language.

(Hawkeye's semi-canonical (depends on the version, as with so much Marvel) deafness is also leading to interesting writing decisions for me right now.)

Okay, so comics!Clint has hearing loss resulting from physical trauma. (MCU!Clint probably doesn't, who knows.)

I have two historical AUs going atm. In the 1860s US one I think I have decided that Clint has serious tinnitus. The medieval fantasy one I'm not sure, because on the one hand I want to include it and other characters already have magical assistive tech so I could put hearing aids in and it would help with the worldbuilding. Ooh, and some of Clint's early characterization, actually.

But that Clint is relatively young and has been mostly avoiding major physical trauma, so I need to figure out backstory.
